In the year 2138, Jared Browning (Sinise) was the top bounty hunter, bringing in every criminal he ever went after... except one - Gabriel Varn (Leary), a technological prodigy who worked for the highest bidder. When Varn got away, Browning was left for dead, spending the next ten years recovering. However, Varn's desire for revenge only increased over the years and he was finally ready for the ultimate revenge: implanting the now-author Browning with a Tracker device programmed to make the authorities think he is an escaped criminal. Now he must use his knowledge of bounty hunting to outsmart the hunters.

When Maggie Vellums (Hunt) loses her job at a car dealership in Michigan, she packs up her two goth daughters (Ricci and Birch) and their stepfather Joe (Penn) and takes off to pursue her dream of filming a documentary on Vegas showgirls. The stories of all four family members intertwine in a lush tapestry of familial love as Maggie realizes that all dreams can't come true, the girls must learn to accept each other when no-one else will and Joe must fight against the temptation of a secret gambling addiction.
